The Rutland Gold Salver by Paul Storr, London 1801

Part of the foundation sale to H. E. Mahdi al Tajir in 1977.

On packing at Rutland Gate for loan to the Bulletin Centenary Exhibition in 1980 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the salver was missing, it was found under the Ambassador’s pillow in his bedroom.

The exhibition provided the owner with a catalogue of his collection and Kerry Packer, who owned the Bulletin, with an introduction to the real world of collecting, resulting in the ‘Packer Collection’. The exhibition made a profit after all costs and expenses.
