The Historic Blackwood Speakers Chair for the First Federal Parliament

Designed by Charles Pasley and made by Charles Johnston & Co. using European Labour Only. This chair was used by the Duke of York to open the first Federal Parliament after the declaration of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901.

A Perquisite of Office it was retained, as was the tradition by the family of Sir Frederick William Holder, the first Speaker in the House of Representatives in the First Federal Parliament.
